Following some initial investigations, it was discovered that this Grade 2 Listed thatched cottage in Chelmsford had suffered some significant decay to its structural timbers which was starting to show internally. A piecemeal approach was adopted to expose the frame, provide temporary supports, rebuild the base brickwork and leadwork, and repair the sole plates.
